Introducing
Awareness Accelerator
Advance your racial justice awareness and analysis in 6 weeks.
For Jewish and Jewish-adjacent folks who want greater knowledge and confidence around race and racism WITHOUT guilt, shame, or the frozenness that comes from fear of making a mistake.
You know racism is a real problem--in the world and in Jewish communities.
You want to make a change.
You want to be an ally and co-conspirator.
YOU’RE NOT SURE HOW
You’re AFRAID you’ll make a mistake and inadvertently offend someone.
You feel OVERWHELMED by the sheer volume of materials about racism.
You’re ANXIOUS that anti-racism learning erases or ignores antisemitism.
You find yourself FROZEN in place, unsure of how to engage in productive ways that don’t hurt others or yourself.
STAYING THE SAME IS NOT AN OPTION.
KNOW BETTER, DO BETTER.
WE CAN HELP.
Growing your racial justice understanding, acumen, and confidence is like growing a tree. You must establish your roots before you can bear fruit. The process can take years and often moves in fits and starts.
There is a faster, more joyful way.
AWARENESS ACCELERATOR
is a 6-week online program that will help give you a baseline understanding of racial justice concepts, terms, and lived experiences. It’s like miracle grow for the roots of your racial justice tree.
We know there’s a lot of material out there about race and racism. From books to Podcasts to TEDTalks to daily email subscriptions, there are many opportunities--a lot of them really good--to learn more about racial justice.
How do you know where to start, what to read next?
Wouldn’t it be great to have someone to curate your reading (and listening and watching)--and answer questions along the way?
Wouldn’t it be especially useful if that person tailored your learning so that it would be particularly relevant to you as a Jewish (or Jewish-adjacent) person?
Stop guessing (and doubting!) what to do next on your racial justice journey.
Follow a tested learning path.
The best part is you’ll be establishing roots that will keep you grounded as you continue your racial justice journey long after the course is over.

(Re-)Encounter historical Jewish and Black Civil Rights leaders with your new perspective and walk away with a deeper understanding of today’s landscape.

"The Joyous Justice Awareness Accelerator is incredible. April and Tracie have curated an important set of materials and their leadership and feedback through the self-paced curriculum are as meaningful as the resources themselves. Everyone should have this experience, I highly recommend the Awareness Accelerator program.”
-- Glenn D.
"I am eternally grateful for the resources shared and reflection questions provided by both of you, April and Tracie. All of [the] videos, the papers; the ones that addressed the experiences of Jews of Color in our Jewish Communities, the papers by James Baldwin and Heschel are seminal in terms of addressing the differences in the struggles of Blacks and Jews. I don't really know how to express how transforming the last 6 months has felt for me... I had some 'awareness' of Systemic Racism before all of this learning, but was more in the mindset of lacking clear facts, and feeling more and more stuck in despair and helplessness. … Thank you from the bottom of my heart and also to other Accelerator participants, I valued reading your posts…”
-- Beth G.
"This course allows you to dig deep into rich materials and experiences while also digging deep within yourself. It's a must for anyone who wants to create truly welcoming communities."
-- Daniel B.

In 2020 Tracie and some Jewish communal colleagues were looking to provide a multi-day learning opportunity their Jewish community--something that would develop a shared foundation of knowledge and tools to address racism in their community and beyond.
Tracie wanted the course she wished she could have taken.
After becoming suddenly more aware of her own privilege after Freddie Gray died in police custody, Tracie had taken a lurching path toward greater understanding and effective action.
Her route had found her by turns learning, horrified, embarrassed, working to change her own attitudes and behavior, hurting people’s feelings, and having her own feelings hurt.
Tracie wanted something smoother for her community. A curated, systematic syllabus that provided frameworks, definitions, and concepts, and allowed participants to try on new ideas and interact with one another in addition to the course work.
That course simply didn’t exist.
With the help of a local DEI professional and colleague, Tracie created it. At the time it was called 18 Days Exploring Racial Justice, and when she joined Joyous Justice, LLC in late 2020, Tracie brought it with her.
April recognized the need for such a program. Her many years doing diversity, equity, and inclusion work within Jewish spaces told her this course was needed--and that it needed some tweaks. With wisdom from working with many Jewish communities and clients, April enhanced Tracie’s content, format, and delivery to make it even more more effective.
The result was Awareness Accelerator.
